You can also adjust the sensitivity of your touchpad from the Settings tab, which may be necessary if certain gestures aren't triggering properly.Įvery touchpad is different, so you may have to fiddle to get things working. MultiSwipe also allows more gestures than Windows does, including pinching, rotating, and "tip taps" (where you place some fingers on the touchpad and tap a finger). Just make sure you disable Windows' built-in gestures, otherwise you'll run into issues. This can be useful for actions like adjusting volume, allowing you to turn up your music higher the longer you swipe your finger (rather than it going up one notch per swipe). You can pick from the drop-down lists or specify your own keyboard shortcuts.Ĭlick the "1" or "n" button to specify how the gesture works-a "1" denotes that the action will happen once, while "n" means the gesture will trigger again and again as you move your fingers. Right-click its system tray icon and choose Properties to customize your gestures.

To use MultiSwipe, download and install the free trial (it lasts 15 days and requires an internet connection, but the full $5 version works offline). Plus, unlike Windows 10's settings, Multiswipe works with Synaptics, Elan, and Precision drivers, not to mention older versions of Windows (for those of you still clutching Windows 7 for dear life). It can also customize multi-finger gestures on a touch screen, if your laptop has one. In that case, I recommend checking out MultiSwipe, a $5 program that lets you create your own two-, three-, four-, and even five-finger gestures for over 90 different actions (or map them to any keyboard shortcut you desire). If you're a gesture maniac, Windows' built-in settings-while quite powerful-may not be enough for you.

Poke around the Control Panel and system tray to see what software customizations your touchpad might offer-or skip to the next section for even more control. You won't get the improved tracking of the precision drivers, but you won't have to deal with the quirks that come with the workaround method, either.
Multiswipe full drivers#
For example, if you have Elan or Synaptic drivers installed, you should be able to head to Settings > Devices > Mouse > Additional Mouse Options and find a separate tab with tweakable multi-finger gestures (depending on your laptop). It won't work on every machine, and it's definitely not officially supported, but since precision touchpads have better accuracy and scrolling than their older rivals-in addition to the multi-touch gestures mentioned above-it may be worth a shot if you have nerves of steel (and a USB mouse to reverse the process in case anything goes wrong).Īlternatively, you may still be able to do some customization through the drivers that come with your non-precision touchpad. There is a slightly hack-y workaround that involves installing some Lenovo drivers on your non-Lenovo laptop, making its Synaptics and Elan touchpads work as precision touchpads.
Unfortunately, if you don't have a precision touchpad, you won't see these options in Windows 10's settings.
